Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (PBN)

Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (PBN)

Pyrolytic boron nitride ceramic is prepared by the CVD process (chemical vapor deposition), with all the boron nitride crystals growing parallel to the surface of which the vapor is deposited. PBN is also called chemical vapor deposition boron nitride.

PBN is deposited by the reaction of ammonia and boron halide under high temperature and high vacuum conditions. It can be deposited in sheet/strip form, it can also be directly deposited into PBN final products such as tubes, rings, and thin-walled containers (crucibles).

Compare to hot-pressed boron nitride (BN), no hot-press sintering process & binder are engaged. The material purity is higher than HBN since the raw material is high purity gas (BCl3 + NH3 –> BN +HCl), the typical purity for PBN is 99.99%.

PBN is an advanced material with excellent properties, including

-Non-toxic and odorless;

-High purity & density

-No react with acid, alkali, salt, and organic reagents at room temperature, and slightly corroded in molten salt or alkali solution, but it can resist corrosion of various acids at high temperature;

-No react with most molten metals, semiconductors, and their compounds;

-The oxidation resistance is good below 1000 °C;

-Good thermal shock resistance

-The use temperature is high, there is no sublimation point, and it is directly decomposed into B and N above 3000 °C

Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (PBN) Applications

-Ideal container for elemental purification

-Widely used in aviation, aerospace, electronics, chemical, special metallurgy, medical and other fields.

-With its high density & purity, PBN is becoming a widely used material in vacuum processes.

-Ideal material to make crucibles for crystal growing, especially for the preparation of next-generation compound semiconductors such as GaAs, InP, etc.

Boron Carbide Parts China, Ceramics Division is a leading supplier of ceramic materials. We offer boride nitride products of high purity and at a competitive price. Due to the CVD process, the thickness of PBN products is usually <3mm. Available PBN ceramic products include PBN crucibles (VGF / LEC / Conical / MBE / OLED), sheets, Tubes, strips, discs, rings, machined & custom parts, etc.
