Boron Nitride Ceramic

Boron Nitride (BN) Ceramic

Boron nitride is a thermally and chemically resistant refractory compound of boron and nitrogen with the chemical formula BN. It is an advanced ceramic material available in solid and powder forms.

There are various crystalline forms for BN. The hexagonal form corresponding to graphite is the most stable and soft form, it is therefore used as lubricant and additive to cosmetic products. The cubic (c-BN) variety analogous to diamond has a very high hardness which is second to diamond. The rare wurtzite boron nitride (w-BN) is similar to lonsdaleite, and it may even be harder than CBN. Boron nitride is not a natural existence substance, and it is synthetic.

Boron Nitride Properties & Applications

-Great machinability

-Lubricity

-Low dielectric constant

-Superior dielectric strength.

-Low wettability to molten metal

-Relatively high thermal conductivity with low thermal expansion

-Relatively high thermal shock resistance compared with other ceramics

-Extremely high working temperature with proper inert gas protection

Because of excellent thermal and chemical stability, boron nitride ceramics are traditionally used as parts of high-temperature equipment, it is also an ideal material for heat sinks and high-temperature insulation. Hexagonal BN (h-BN) Ceramic is usually used to make BN crucible. Cubic boron nitride (c-BN) is used as an abrasive and is an ideal material for heat spreaders. Amorphous boron nitride (a-BN) Layers of amorphous boron nitride (a-BN) are used in some semiconductor devices.

Machinable boron nitride ceramic materials are usually hexagonal. Based on the production method, there are two different types of BN material: Hot pressed Boron Nitride (HBN) and Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (PBN).

Boron Carbide Parts China Ceramics Division is a leading supplier of both types of boron nitride ceramics. We offer boron nitride products of high purity and at a competitive price.
