Cerium boride, also known as cerium hexaboride or CeB6, is a refractory ceramic material. The main use of cerium hexaboride is a hot cathode coating or a hot cathode made of cerium hexaboride crystals. It usually operates at a temperature of 1450 ° C.
Cerium hexaboride, like lanthanum hexaboride, also evaporates slowly during cathode operation. Under the condition of CeB6 cathode working at 1850 K, CeB6 should maintain the best shape for longer, so the service life is longer. Although this process is 30% slower than lanthanum boride, cerium boride deposits are reported to be more difficult to remove.
