PBN Filament Ring

Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (PBN) is frequently used to make filament rings to hold Ta wire in MBE equipment, due to its high working temperature and vacuum property. The pyrolytic boron nitride rings EDGETECH could supply, are cut from 1mm, 2mm, or 3mm thick PBN discs with about 10~14″ diameter. The diameter of raw material PBN was limited by equipment size but the finished PBN filament ring could be machined to highly customized shapes with competitive price cost. PBN is an advanced material with excellent properties, including

-Non-toxic and odorless;

-High purity & density

-No react with acid, alkali, salt, and organic reagents at room temperature, and slightly corroded in molten salt or alkali solution, but it can resist corrosion of various acids at high temperature;

-No react with most molten metals, semiconductors, and their compounds;

-The oxidation resistance is good below 1000 °C;

-Good thermal shock resistance

-The use temperature is high, there is no sublimation point, and it is directly decomposed into B and N above 3000 °C

Packaging

As a ceramic material, boron nitride is quite fragile in a lot of cases. The Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (PBN) Filament Rings are usually held in plastic bags by vacuum, and protected with heavy foam.
